When God is Not in It

Daily Devotional – Thursday, June 12, 2025
Unless the LORD builds the house, they labor in vain who build it. Unless the LORD guards the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.
Psalms 127:1 (NKJV)

You are working hard, planning your future, maybe trying to hold your family, job, or dreams together, but somehow it still feels like it is not enough. According to the key text, if God is not in it, all our effort can end up being meaningless.

Unless the Lord Builds the House

The psalmist is not saying that work is bad. It is actually the opposite. Work is important, but it is not meant to be done alone. If we exclude God from our lives, we are essentially constructing sandcastles during low tide.

God wants to be our architect and builder, as it were. When we try to do it all ourselves, we end up frustrated, anxious, and exhausted. However, when we let God lead, everything changes. The pressure subsides and peace takes its place, even if things don’t always go perfectly.

When God is Not in It

Moreover, we can take every precaution and still feel unsafe or unsettled. True security is not found in plans, money, or backup strategies but in God, and He never stops watching over us.

Are you building a relationship, career, or personal goal without asking God to be part of it? What would it look like to actually include God in your daily plans? Where are you trying to stay in control when God is asking you to trust Him instead?

Prayer
Father in heaven, I am tired of doing things my way. I invite You to lead me, to build what You want to build in my life, and to watch over what I cannot control.
