And the Angel of the LORD appeared to him, and said to him, “The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor!”
Judges 6:12 (NKJV)
It is possible to read the story of Gideon and his exploits as a judge and fail to realize just how prone this man was to self-doubt. His story teaches the importance of living out God’s purpose in our lives instead of wallowing in doubt and fear.
Mighty Man of Valor!
An angel of God appears to a fearful Gideon and tells him, “The LORD is with you, you mighty man of valor!” While Gideon staggers in cowardice and self-doubt in a winepress, God sees in him a deliverer of the nation.
God knows that in Gideon, He has created courage, strength, and victory. The Almighty refuses to give up on Gideon because He wants Gideon to use his God-given abilities to achieve his life’s purpose.
Doubts, Fear and Divine Purpose
How often do we behave like Gideon? We allow self-doubt to kill the dreams God has planted inside us. We fail to record that song, write that book, start that business, embark on that project, and so on, because we do not understand or we doubt God’s purposes for us.
Today, God reminds us that He has not given up on us. We are mighty warriors and not cowards shying away from duty. Which stalled projects is God telling you to revive today? What is hindering you from exploiting your talents and gifts? Will you listen to God calling you a warrior or allow the inner voice of doubt and fear to control you?
Prayer
Almighty God, thank You for reminding me that I am a mighty warrior. Empower me to reject fear and doubt and live purposefully.
