Daily Devotional – Sunday, July 13, 2025
Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.
Psalms 86:11 (NIV)
Have you ever felt pulled in too many directions at once? Life has a way of crowding our hearts with stress, busyness, doubts, and desires, and sometimes, God gets pushed to the side. David offers a simple but powerful prayer: “Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name.”
Teach Me Your Way
He is not just asking for information. He craves transformation. David wants God to guide his steps, not just for the sake of making the right choices, but so he can live with a heart that is steady and loyal to God. Such a heart remains steadfast and unwavering. It knows where its hope comes from.
David’s prayer, according to Matthew Poole’s Commentary, is, “…engage and knit my whole heart to thyself and service, and deliver me from inconstancy and wavering, that I may not at any time, nor in the least degree, be withdrawn from thee, either to any corrupt worship, or to the love and pursuit of the lusts or vanities of this present evil world.”
Give Me an Undivided Heart
We all need that kind of clarity, particularly in a world that constantly pulls us in different directions. When we ask God to teach us His way and give us an undivided heart, He does exactly that because He loves to answer that kind of prayer.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, give me an undivided heart. Show me the way You want me to live. When my heart gets distracted or overwhelmed, bring me back to You. I want to live with a clear focus.
