The Risk of Drifting Away

Daily Devotional – Tuesday, July 15, 2025
You, therefore, beloved, since you know this beforehand, beware lest you also fall from your own steadfastness, being led away with the error of the wicked.
2 Peter 3:17 (NKJV)

Apostle Peter dedicates a portion of his second epistle to comment on Paul’s writings. He observes that some unstable Christians misinterpret these scriptures to their own detriment. Then he takes the opportunity to warn against drifting away from the faith.

Led Astray

Life can pull us in so many directions. Busyness, doubt, distractions, and even voices that sound spiritual can quietly lead us off course. That’s why Peter gives us this heartfelt warning in our key text.

Peter knew how easy it is to lose focus and slowly slip away from the truth. He is reminding us that just because we are standing firm today does not mean we cannot stumble tomorrow if we are not paying attention. The truth is, staying strong in your faith takes intention. It means staying rooted in God’s Word and being mindful of what influences you.

The Risk of Drifting Away

hankfully, you are not on your own. God has already given you everything you need to stand strong, such as His Word, His Spirit, and His people. Staying grounded doesn’t require possessing all the answers but rather firmly clinging to Jesus during times of uncertainty.

Check your footing today. Make sure you are still standing on the truth, not shifting sand. In case you have drifted, remember it is never too late to go back to God.

Prayer
Dear God, help me stay close to You. When the world gets noisy and I feel pulled in other directions, remind me of what is true. Keep me grounded so that I don’t drift from You.
