When We Focus on Others

Daily Devotional – Saturday, August 2, 2025
Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.
Galatians 5:26

We live in a world where we are likely to feel like we are in a silent competition with everyone around us. Someone gets more likes, a better job, a nicer house, or seems more “spiritual,” and suddenly we feel less. Alternatively, we try harder to look more impressive, more put-together, just to feel like we matter.

Let Us Not Become Conceited

According to the Apostle Paul, we don’t need to live like that. He warns against trying to prove one is better than another, provoking fellow believers, and being jealous of others. Such behaviors and attitudes are contradictory to the Christian way of life.

When we get caught up in pride or comparison, we lose sight of what actually matters. We become insecure, bitter, or even fake. Moreover, instead of growing closer to others, we push people away. The good news is that you don’t have to compete with or try to impress others.

When We Focus on Others

When we live out of that truth, we can stop comparing and start celebrating. We can cheer others on instead of feeling threatened. We can be content with who we are and where God has us right now. Our unity in Christ overrules any supremacy issues among us.

Is there someone you are silently competing with or secretly jealous of? What would it look like to let go of that today and just rest in God’s love for you? Today, choose to focus on God, not others.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me stop comparing myself to others and trying to prove my worth before the world. Thank You for loving me unconditionally. Teach me to celebrate others instead of competing with them.
