Keep Off Evil

Daily Devotional – Thursday, August 7, 2025
Abstain from every form of evil.
1 Thessalonians 5:22 (NKJV)

Today’s guiding text reminds us to live wisely and intentionally and to keep off evil. Paul was writing to a group of new believers in Thessalonica who were trying to follow Jesus in a culture full of temptation, confusion, and compromise. He wanted them to avoid doing wrong and stay away from anything that even looks like it could be wrong.

Abstain From Every Form of Evil

How we live matters, not just for our own spiritual health, but for the people watching us. Whether we realize it or not, others are paying attention to our choices, our words, and our behaviour. And while we are not called to live to impress people, we are called to represent Jesus well.

Sometimes, something may not be technically sinful, but it might give the wrong impression. Paul is saying, “Be mindful. Protect your integrity. Don’t let small compromises chip away at your witness.” Living above reproach means choosing what is wise, honest, and pure.

Keep Off Evil

When we live with this kind of intentionality, it builds trust. It also keeps our hearts clean and our relationship with God strong, and those who interact with us are attracted to the God we serve.

Are there any areas in your life that might send mixed messages to others about your faith? What does it look like to live in a way that reflects Jesus clearly? How will you keep off evil from today?

Prayer
Almighty God, help me live above reproach, not just in big decisions, but in the small, quiet ones too. Keep me from anything that looks or feels evil, and help me to be a clear reflection of Your love and truth.
