Rooted in Reverence

Daily Devotional – Saturday, September 20, 2025
The fear of the LORD prolongs days, but the years of the wicked will be shortened.
Proverbs 10:27 (NKJV)

Picture two trees side by side. One is planted by a river, with roots stretching deep into the rich soil. The other grows in shallow, dry ground. When a violent storm sweeps through, the deeply rooted tree stands tall, while the weaker one is easily torn down.

The Fear of the Lord

Respecting and honoring God is like having deep, secure roots. When we hold Him in awe, valuing His wisdom, and choosing to follow His ways, we often experience greater stability, peace, and purpose. God’s guidance keeps us from many destructive choices that can shorten or damage our lives.

This verse is not promising that every believer will live to an old age, but it reminds us that God’s wisdom protects and enriches our days. A life shaped by integrity, kindness, and trust in Him has depth and meaning. Such a person blesses others, weathers life’s storms, and leaves a legacy.

Rooted in Reverence

By contrast, ignoring God’s ways might feel freeing at first, but it leaves us vulnerable. Pride, selfishness, and sinful habits can steal both the quality and quantity of our time on earth.
Take a moment today to check your roots. Are you anchored in God’s truth, or are you standing in shallow soil? Spend time with Him in prayer and Scripture. Let His wisdom guide your decisions.

Like the tree planted by the river, a person grounded in reverence for the Lord will not only stand firm in difficult times; he will also flourish, bearing fruit that lasts.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, teach me to honor and revere You in all I do. Help me sink my roots deep into Your wisdom so I can stand firm when life’s storms come.
