He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters.
Luke 11:23 (NKJV)
We often use the phrase “gray area” when we don’t want to take a clear stand. It suggests indecision, half-heartedness, or a lack of clarity. In life, people sometimes prefer to stay neutral, but when it comes to faith, Jesus made it plain that there is no neutral ground.
The Peril of Spiritual Neutrality
Spiritually speaking, gray areas are dangerous. During His time on earth, Jesus often walked a path that was not popular. Many hesitated to be associated with Him or His teachings. Both He and His disciples became targets of criticism and mockery.
One example is when Jesus healed a man who had been mute by casting out a demon. Instead of celebrating the miracle, His opponents accused Him of using satanic power. Jesus’ reply was direct and cutting: “He who is not with Me is against Me, and he who does not gather with Me scatters.” (Luke 11:23).
The Cost of Indecision
As pressure mounted, His disciples were forced to make a choice. They could not remain undecided or half-committed. Following Him meant taking a clear stand. If their hearts leaned toward His enemies but they still outwardly followed Him, they were not truly His.
That same call comes to us today. We cannot claim to be Christians yet refuse to fully surrender to Christ. Our hearts cannot serve both Jesus and the enemy. We cannot live one way in the world and another way in the church. If we are not actively for Jesus, we are standing against Him. It is really that simple.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, give me courage to stand firmly on Your side. Strengthen my faith so that I live fully devoted to You, without compromise.
