In this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the life that is truly life.
1 Timothy 6:19 (NIV)
A man spent his entire life chasing the dream home, luxury cars, and a bank account to match. When he finally achieved it all, he expected to feel fulfilled. Instead, he found an emptiness he couldn’t explain. One evening, he confessed to a friend, “I have everything I ever wanted, but I still feel like something’s missing.”
That “something” is what the Apostle Paul calls “the life that is truly life.”
Chasing What Truly Matters
In his letter to Timothy, Paul cautions believers not to put their trust in riches, because wealth is uncertain and temporary. Instead, he urges us to put our hope in God, who provides for us generously and wants us to enjoy what we have but not worship it.
True life is not found in possessions, status, or comfort. It is discovered when we use what God gives us to bless others, when we become channels of His generosity. When our wealth and abilities serve God’s purposes, we are not just building a better life here. We are laying a foundation for eternity.
When Having It All Isn’t Enough
Real life, the kind that satisfies deeply, is eternal life with God. It is the peace that comes from living with purpose, gratitude, and generosity. Everything else fades, but what we invest in others lasts forever.
Prayer
Lord, teach me to seek the life that truly satisfies. Help me to use what You’ve blessed me with to serve others and build treasures in heaven. Keep my heart anchored in You, the true Source of life.
