Called Out to Stand Out

Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
Ephesians 5:11 (NIV)

Sometimes, walking with God means standing apart from what everyone else is doing. It is not always easy, especially when the crowd seems to enjoy what you know is wrong. Yet, as children of light, we are called to make choices that reflect God’s truth, even when it feels uncomfortable. Darkness hides things, but light reveals them. When God’s light shines through us, it helps others see clearly too.

The Courage to Shine

Paul reminds us that the works of darkness are “fruitless.” They promise pleasure, success, or acceptance, but in the end, they leave emptiness and regret. Living in the light, however, produces love, joy, peace, and purpose. God wants us to not only avoid sinful behaviors but also gently uncover them by living differently, that is, by showing what truth and righteousness look like in real life.

Imagine a streetlight on a dark road. When it flickers off, people stumble or slow down in fear. But when it shines brightly, travelers walk with confidence. That is what believers do when they live in truth. Our obedience becomes a light that helps others find their way to Christ.

Exposing the Shadows With Grace

Today, look around your life. Are there places where compromise has dimmed your light? Ask God to expose them, not to shame you but to heal and strengthen you. Living in the light might make you stand out, but it will also make you shine.

Prayer
Lord, help me walk in Your light and turn away from anything that leads to darkness. Give me courage to live truthfully, even when it costs me comfort. Let my life reflect Your purity and guide others to You.
