How to Approach God

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
Hebrews 11:6 (NIV)

When Janes’ father was admitted to the hospital, she would wake up before dawn and pray for her mother and doctors because she believed help would come. Like Jane, we should pray because we trust that God hears and responds to those who seek Him with sincerity.

He Exists and He Rewards

In any Christian congregation, there are people carrying silent burdens. Each person has something they are placing before God. This is not like people lining up for favors from a politician or a crowd hoping a performer will entertain them. It is a gathering of people who trust that God meets those who reach out to Him.

Today’s key text states that pleasing God begins with faith. Paul also encourages us in Second Corinthians 5:9 to make it our goal to please the Lord. We do that by approaching Him with genuine confidence.

How to Approach God

Hebrews reveals two essential parts of this faith. First is believing that God truly exists. Prayer is meaningful because we speak to a real and powerful God who invites us to live under His authority. Second is believing that God rewards those who seek Him earnestly. This means trusting His goodness, His compassion, and His desire to bless His children.

What are you asking God for today? Begin by affirming His existence and His authority. Then trust His goodness as you wait for His perfect response.

Heavenly Father, I affirm Your existence, Your authority, and Your willingness to reward me as I seek You earnestly.
