…that you would walk worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.
1 Thessalonians 2:12 (NIV)
Think of a company where a new employee is mentored by someone who models excellence. The mentor’s behavior sets a standard, and the new worker naturally wants to rise to that level. Their example becomes a silent invitation to grow.
Worthy Steps for a Worthy God
Becoming a child of God is a far greater calling. There is nothing more meaningful than reflecting the character of the One who created the universe. Both God and the world around us expect believers to live in a way that honors Him and aligns with His kingdom values.
Paul understood this truth deeply. He and his fellow missionaries made it their mission to live in a manner that revealed God’s character wherever they went. The early gospel workers recognized the power of example in winning souls and encouraging spiritual growth among new believers.
A Life that Matches the Calling
This is why Paul could confidently remind the Thessalonians of how he and his companions lived among them. He points out that they behaved in a devout and blameless way and encouraged the believers as gently and firmly as a caring father. His goal was to motivate them to walk worthy of God, who calls them into His kingdom and glory.
God expects His children to be devout, just, and blameless. Only when we reflect the attitude and character of Christ do we gain the moral authority to encourage others to do the same. Our lives should testify that we belong to God.
Take a moment to examine your life. Can those around you say you live in a way that reflects Christ both publicly and privately? What areas still need surrender so you may fully represent His character?
Prayer
Dear God, teach me how to walk worthy of You and Your kingdom.
