Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light.
Micah 7:8 (NIV)
Imagine someone who loses a job and becomes the subject of jokes. People say their life is finished and nothing good can come out of their situation. Months later, that same person starts a successful business, and those who laughed are silenced. Many are quick to rejoice when others fall. They assume struggles are signs of failure and that God has withdrawn His favor. Their words can deepen pain and make difficulties feel permanent.
Beyond the Mockery
Micah understood this attitude well. He spoke confidently to those who mocked Israel and reminded them that falling was not the end. Although he admitted that Israel had sinned, he also believed that God would not abandon His people forever. God allowed powerful nations to discipline them, and these nations, like Assyria and Babylon, mocked Israel and questioned God’s presence, as seen in verse 10. Micah held on to hope, knowing that God would bring His people back into the light and reveal His righteousness.
The same mindset exists today. Some believers turn other people’s problems into topics of discussion instead of opportunities for compassion. They judge those in difficulty and speak as if God has permanently rejected them. They forget that God corrects in love and restores those who turn to Him.
When God Turns the Tables
If you find yourself surrounded by darkness, do not accept the voices that predict your end. Your challenges are not final. God can turn shame into testimony. The darkness you face will not last because God is your light. Rise with confidence, knowing that God has not forgotten you. Let your faith speak louder than your critics.
Prayer
Dear God, thank You for Your mercy. Even when I fall, help me rise again through Your strength.
