Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.
1 Peter 4:10 (NIV)
Imagine a community garden where every plot is assigned, tools are shared, and the harvest depends on everyone showing up. If one gardener keeps the tools locked away, the soil suffers. When each person brings what they have, the garden thrives. Service in the church works much the same way.
When Your Gift Becomes Someone Else’s Blessing
In a Bible class, my students and I talked about what makes service effective. We agreed that growth in faith happens through the Holy Spirit. Personal spiritual growth fuels churches and moves us from spectators to servants.
We also recognized that when the Holy Spirit lives within us, God entrusts us with spiritual gifts. Peter explains that every believer receives a gift, and its purpose is service. The gifts may differ, but the calling is the same. God never intended His people to sit idle. Jesus showed us servant leadership and invites us to follow.
Letting God’s Grace Flow Through You
Using our gifts well makes us faithful stewards of God’s grace. Stewardship always includes responsibility. God cares about how we manage what He provides. Choosing not to serve is a missed opportunity to bless others and honor Him.
So, let Does the Holy Spirit dwell in you? Are you growing spiritually? Do you know your gifts? Are you using them to serve others? When we understand the source and purpose of our gifts, faithful service follows. May our churches and communities be richer because we show up.

Holy Spirit, guide me to serve others faithfully.
