The Little Things We Let Slide

Daily Devotional – Friday, January 16, 2026
A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.
Galatians 5:9 (NIV)

Think about how habits usually form in everyday life. They rarely begin with a bold or reckless decision. More often, they start quietly: one small choice, one repeated action, or something that feels harmless and easy to explain away. Over time, what once seemed insignificant becomes familiar, comfortable, and eventually difficult to let go of.

Faithfulness in the Small Places

Paul speaks directly to this reality in today’s key text. Yeast does not need much space to work. A small amount is enough to influence the entire dough. In the same way, sin does not demand full control at the beginning. It only needs permission to remain and the opportunity to grow unnoticed.

Many spiritual struggles develop this way. A boundary is relaxed just once. A relationship is tolerated despite inner warnings. A habit is postponed for another day with the promise to deal with it later. Each decision feels manageable, even reasonable, but together they shape character and direction, slowly dulling spiritual sensitivity.

The Little Things We Let Slide

Still, there is hope. God’s grace is stronger than any pattern we have formed. When we choose to stop feeding sin, its influence begins to weaken. Repentance is not about shame or condemnation. It is about freedom, healing, and restoration. God responds with mercy when hearts are willing to turn back to Him.

Let today be a moment of courage and honesty. Ask yourself what small compromise you have been carrying. Bring it openly before God. Ask the Holy Spirit for strength to say no and wisdom to choose differently. As you remove the little yeast, allow God to renew your heart and realign your steps with His truth.

Prayer
Father, search my heart and give me the courage to let go of every small compromise that pulls me away from You.
