Finding Refuge When Fear Knocks

Daily Devotional – Sunday, January 18, 2026
The name of the LORD is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.
Proverbs 18:10 (NIV)

A sudden storm once forced travellers off an open road and toward a sturdy shelter nearby. Wind battered the land, and rain soaked everything in sight. The moment they stepped inside thick walls, calm replaced fear. The shelter did not stop the storm, yet it provided safety and rest while the danger passed outside.

Why God Remains Our Safest Place

In biblical times, fortified towers served a similar purpose. When enemies approached, people ran toward strong walls designed to withstand attack. Survival depended on reaching that place of protection. In today’s world, war bunkers function in much the same way. Remaining outside during danger exposes people to harm, while staying inside offers security and peace.

Solomon understood the power of this image. He compared the Lord’s name to a fortified tower because God’s character stands firm. Scripture describes Him as merciful, gracious, patient, and full of unfailing love. God forgives sin, restores the broken, and remains faithful in every season. His nature forms a refuge that never weakens.

Finding Refuge When Fear Knocks

People run to God with all kinds of needs. Those burdened by guilt find forgiveness. The sick receive healing. The lonely discover acceptance and deep love. God also cares about practical concerns. He listens to prayers for employment, provision, restored marriages, and strengthened families. His name brings help that reaches every part of life.

Challenges still press in today. Fear, disappointment, and exhaustion can leave anyone feeling exposed. God invites you to stop standing alone and to run to Him now. Trust His character. Bring every worry to His presence. Choose to remain in the safety of His name and walk forward with renewed hope and confidence.

Prayer
Almighty God, I run to You as my fortified tower today and trust You to cover my life with Your peace and protection.
