The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life.
Proverbs 10:11 (NKJV)
In a small rural community, a single well often determines where people gather. Neighbours meet there, animals depend on it, and crops survive because of it. When water flows freely, life thrives around it. Words work the same way. What comes from our mouths can refresh weary hearts or leave people spiritually dry.
What Flows from You
Solomon reminds us that the mouth of the righteous functions like that life-giving spring. He points to speech shaped by a life surrendered to God. When someone follows Christ and seeks God’s will, their words reflect that relationship. Their conversations show care, restraint, and purpose rather than harm or carelessness.
Life-giving speech brings hope into discouraged spaces and peace into tense moments. These words honour others and reduce conflict. They offer wisdom without arrogance and truth without cruelty. Such words linger long after the conversation ends because they uplift rather than wound. The righteous learn when to speak and when silence serves better.
What Lingers After You Speak
That kind of speech does not happen by accident. It flows from what fills the heart and mind. When believers consistently walk with God, spend time in His presence, and reflect on His Word, their speech changes. A heart nourished by God naturally produces words that reflect His character.
Take time today to examine your speech. Ask whether your words bring life to your family, coworkers, and friends. Commit to feeding your mind with God’s truth and letting Him shape your conversations. Choose words that heal, encourage, and guide others closer to Christ.
Prayer
Lord, shape my heart daily so my words bring life, encouragement, and honour to You and to others.
