Where God’s Protection Meets Our Fear

Daily Devotional – Tuesday, January 27, 2026
For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.
Psalm 27:5 (NIV)

I once saw a little girl freak out when a ferocious dog ran at her on the pavement. She looked scared as she looked for help. She ran to her father right away when she saw him nearby. She felt safer with him there than she did without.

Covered on the Day of Disaster

For every believer going through hard times, the twenty-seventh psalm gives the same assurance. God doesn’t just see our fear. He gives you a safe and private place to stay. He keeps us safe and lifts us beyond peril. Our Father’s protection comes from being close to us, not far away, and it speaks to our hearts with simplicity, tranquillity, and constant hope.

The psalmist penned these words while in danger from real enemies and threats. He knew they were there, but he still chose to trust God. He didn’t pull back; instead, he bent forward in trust. When fear hit him hard and wouldn’t let up that day, God became his safe place, his refuge, and the solid foundation under his feet.

Where God’s Protection Meets Our Fear

We all have our own menacing hounds and rampant fears that we deal with. Our perception of security is often threatened by stress, doubt, and loss. When things go wrong, God wants us to be with Him. They lose power when we give them to Him. His closeness changes how we see things and strengthens our faith when times are hard and we have to make choices.

Pick a place to run when you feel scared today. Choose to look for God instead of hiding in worry. Trust and pray to enter His presence. Give Him your worries and let Him protect you from harm. Have faith and hope that God will always be your shelter and strength.

Prayer
Loving Father, I am grateful for protecting me and for being my safe place in every season of trouble.
