His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life…
2 Peter 1:3 (NIV)
As a teacher, I often saw parents spend a lot of time, money, and energy on their child’s education but did not witness much improvement. My frustration emanated from knowing that every tool for success was there, but the children were abusing the privilege.
When Excuses Run Out
Peter addresses a similar issue but in the spiritual realm. God wants us to live in a way that shows who He is and how wonderful He is. Such an experience is possible when we enter into a working and saving knowledge of Jesus Christ. In other words, God never asks for holiness without first giving grace, truth, strength, and guidance for daily obedience.
God is like a careful farmer who gets the soil ready and takes care of the vineyard. He gives us, the plants, nutrients, water and sunlight with patience. When it is time to harvest, He expects fruit that is as nutritious as the care He has given. Any other result disappoints God, the farmer.
When God Has Done Enough
Do you have any defences now that you know this truth? You have the indwelling Holy Spirit’s unfathomable power to change your thoughts, motives, and character. When things go wrong, ask God for help, repent, and always choose to obey instead of blaming, putting things off, or getting distracted.
Stop giving excuses and start thanking God for what he has given you. Trust in His strength, open your heart, and do what He says. Make a vow to live a life that honours God by making daily choices that show humility, trust, and joy.
Praying
Heavenly Father, I am grateful because I have everything that I need to live for You. Help me respond with obedience, humility, and trust as I follow you daily.
