Daily Devotional – Saturday, February 7, 2026
Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
Ephesians 5:11 (NIV)
George finally cleaned up his garage after years of putting it off. He thought it would be a quick task, but when he started moving boxes, he found broken tools, old supplies, and things that had been ruined by water. The mess had gradually taken up valuable space. To clear it out, he had to work hard, consciously and honestly.
Darkness Begins to Break
Spiritual darkness, too, doesn’t often make a big noise. It typically softly settles into routines through little compromises, bad influences, or attitudes we progressively accept. God wants us to see these patterns and stop following them. When we choose to live in His light, the choices we make every day matter.
Many people don’t want to deal with spiritual darkness since it makes them feel uncomfortable and very personal. We might be scared about harming relationships or being misunderstood. God wants us to be honest when dealing with the dark areas of our lives.
When Darkness Loses Its Cover
Our perfect example, Jesus, told the truth openly and showed kindness and sympathy to those who were having a difficult time. The Holy Spirit shows us where we need to change and gives us the strength to do it. As we walk in the light, our character slowly changes, and other people may see God’s kindness in our life.
Today, think about your habits, what affects you, and how you feel about things. Ask God to show you anything that keeps you from pleasing Him. Pick one area where He is asking you to change and do what He says. Being open with God inspires others and shows them the freedom that comes from giving our lives to Christ.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, look into my heart, take away any darkness that is there, and help me live each day in Your truth.
