When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.
Psalm 56:3 (NIV)
He sat in his car before a hard meeting, staring at the steering wheel and trying to slow his breathing. His mind ran through every possible outcome, most of them negative. His hands felt cold, and his heart beat fast. He knew he could not control what would happen inside that room. Fear felt very real.
Right There in the Moment
In today’s key text, the psalmist speaks to moments like that. He does not pretend to be brave. He admits he is afraid. Then he makes a clear choice. He turns his attention from his fear to God. That shift changes everything.
Fear often shows up without warning. Trust takes a decision. We often wait until we feel calm before we trust God. The verse teaches a different order. We trust while we are still afraid. As we place our confidence in God, our hearts begin to settle. Peace grows as trust grows.
A Quiet Shift in the Midst of Anxiety
Trusting God does not mean our problems vanish. The meeting still happens. The test results still come. The bills still need to be paid. Trust means we believe God is with us in all of it. We remember how He has helped us before. We remind ourselves that His love does not change.
Today, when fear rises, recite this verse out loud. Choose to trust God right in the middle of your worry. Talk to Him about what scares you. Give Him your thoughts one by one. Let trust guide your next step. Take that step with quiet confidence in Him.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, when I feel afraid, help me trust You and rest in Your steady love.
