…to mind your own business…
1 Thessalonians 4:11 (NKJV)
There is always this one person or several people in church who know everything about everybody. Conversely, when I look at my daily itinerary and how busy I am in my various roles, I wonder how one gets time to meddle in other people’s affairs to collect information that has no personal value at all.
Resisting the Urge to Interfere
Apparently, this is not a 21st-century trend. The apostle Paul addressed the issue in his first letter to the Christians in the city of Thessalonica. His instruction is not a call to isolation but to orderly living and tending to what God has entrusted to you. In a restless culture, the temptation is to monitor others instead of minding one’s business.
Staying in your lane is a subtle form of self-control. Scripture calls us to hold back the impulse to fix, measure, or manage things that aren’t ours to handle. Your own faithfulness flourishes when you focus on the tasks, the qualities, and the purpose that are specifically yours.
Stay in Your Lane
When our attention wanders, our sense of responsibility often weakens. However, when we refocus, we gain a clearer understanding. Small tasks regain weight. Integrity deepens in unseen places. The Christian life becomes one of pursuing worthwhile ideals that give glory to God instead of meddling in the affairs of others.
Today, step back from unnecessary involvement and return to the responsibilities God has given you. Find the inner fortitude to stay grounded, resisting the pull of distractions. Proceed from that point forward with a steady determination, a commitment to the cause, and a dedication to consistent effort, all while operating within the framework you have already set.
Prayer
Almighty God, help me focus on what You have entrusted to me and walk in quiet, faithful obedience.
