But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV)
A dozen people are sent to explore a new place. Each returns with the same report, but the recipients are left with completely unique impressions. That is what happened when the twelve spies returned from Canaan. They all saw the same land, the same giants, and the same risks, yet their conclusions were entirely different.
The Difference Was Never the Giants
God never asks us to ignore the dangers facing us. The challenges the spies described were real, and it would have been foolish to pretend otherwise. Faith is not about ignoring difficulties. It is about seeing those difficulties clearly and still choosing to trust God in the middle of them.
This is where today’s key text speaks directly to us. Faith means believing that God is truly present and that He responds to those who seek Him. Joshua and Caleb trusted that God would do what He promised. Their confidence was not in their strength but in God’s faithfulness, and that made all the difference.
Seeing Through the Right Lens
The ten spies allowed fear to shape their thinking, and it led them to shrink back. Joshua’s and Caleb’s faith in God’s promises influenced their views of things, and that gave them strength. The circumstances hadn’t altered, but their reaction made all the difference. Their beliefs dictated their actions.
You will face moments where the obstacles are real and impossible to ignore. In those moments, choose to trust God rather than be overwhelmed by what you see. Believe that He is with you, and He honours your faith. Step forward with confidence, knowing that faith changes outcomes.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, help me to trust You, even when what I see feels overwhelming.
