But David strengthened himself in the LORD his God.
1 Samuel 30:6 (NKJV)
A factory manager sat alone in his office after a fire destroyed part of the business he had spent years building. Workers blamed him for what happened, furious messages poured into his phone, and fear spread through the company. As the accusations grew louder, the man who normally encouraged everyone else suddenly found himself carrying the crisis alone.
Strength When Support Disappears
David faced a similar moment in Ziklag. Amalekite raiders had burned the city and taken away the families of David and his men. Scripture says the people wept until they had no strength left. Their grief soon turned to anger and they talked of stoning David. David’s heart was breaking and he was under pressure. His response was to strengthen himself in the Lord.
David didn’t hide his pain or pretend he wasn’t hurting. He looked to God. He remembered God’s faithfulness. He prayed for God’s help. In turn, the psalmists found courage in God’s presence. Before making decisions or taking action, David found stability and hope in the Lord.
When the Strong Feel Weak
Many of us can relate to the experience of carrying loads and still trying to keep a brave face for others. The heart can become weary of the strain, critique, letdown and isolation. During such moments, we often search everywhere for comfort except in God. Yet human support can disappear quickly, while the Lord remains faithful, steady, and near to those who seek Him sincerely.
After strengthening himself in the Lord, David sought God’s direction and moved forward wisely. That is what spiritual strength produces. God may not lift every burden at once, but He gives wisdom, peace, courage, and endurance for the journey ahead. When life is becomes difficult, you can still find renewed strength and steady hope in the presence of God
Prayer
Almighty God, help us to find strength, courage and stability in Your presence when life is heavy and lonely.
