The Secret to a Consistent Christian Walk

Daily Devotional – Thursday, June 25, 2026
As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him…
Colossians 2:6 (NKJV)

At the beginning of most journeys, there is a lot of excitement. The first days of a new job, a new business, or a new relationship often bring a lot of anticipation. The Christian life is no different. Many believers can look back and remember when they first came to Christ. There was a fresh awareness of His love, a deep gratitude for His forgiveness, and a desire to know Him better. In the middle of teaching the Colossian believers, Paul gives a simple instruction that is easy to overlook. He asserts that the way you began with Christ is the way you are meant to continue with Him.

How to Depend on Christ Every Day

When you first came to Jesus, you did not arrive because you had everything figured out. You came as a sinner in need of grace. You trusted Him. You depended on Him. You acknowledged that you could not save yourself. Paul points back to that moment and says, in effect, “Keep living that way.” The Christian life does not move beyond faith into self-reliance. It grows deeper into faith. The same trust that brought you to Christ is the trust that sustains you every day thereafter.

That can be surprisingly difficult. As time passes, it is easy to start leaning on experience, routines, or personal strength. You may know more Scripture than you once did. You may have served in ministry for years. You may have developed good spiritual habits. Those things are valuable, yet they can never replace a living dependence on Christ. Sometimes we become so busy doing things for God that we gradually stop walking closely with God.

The Secret to a Consistent Christian Walk

Today’s key text reminds us that Christianity is more than maintaining religious activities. It is a relationship. To walk in Christ is to bring your decisions, your worries, your temptations and your plans to Him. It is to consult His wisdom before you act and to draw upon His strength when yours is running low. A branch can only bear fruit if it is connected to the vine. In the same way, spiritual health is not found in independence from Christ but in continual dependence on Him.

Perhaps your walk with God feels different from when you first believed. Life has become busier. Responsibilities have mounted. Challenges have tried faith. Paul offers a gentle invitation to return to the simplicity of trusting Jesus. You do not need a new spiritual formula. You need the same Saviour who met you at the beginning. The Christian life moves forward one step at a time, and every step is taken the same way the first one was: by faith in Christ.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for drawing me to Christ and giving me new life in Him. Help me to walk in the same faith, humility and dependence as I began my journey. Help me to trust You daily and to abide close to Jesus in every season of life.
