Daily Devotional – Sunday, July 19, 2026
Behold, I am coming quickly! Hold fast what you have, that no one may take your crown.
Revelation 3:11 (NKJV)
A mountain climber walked carefully along a narrow ridge. There was a wide drop on each side. Each step took all his attention. Fatigue had set in, and he loosened one hand from the safety rope to readjust his backpack. His guide saw the situation and yelled at him not to let go of the rope. The rope was not just another piece of climbing equipment. It was the very thing keeping him safe. He did not need better gear to reach the summit. He simply needed to keep holding on to what was already protecting him.
Hold Fast What You Have
That picture captures the heart of Jesus’ words to the church in Philadelphia. These believers were not strong or influential. In fact, Jesus said they had “a little strength.” Yet they had stayed faithful. They had kept His Word and had affirmed His name. Instead of telling them to find something they didn’t have, Jesus gave them one simple instruction: “Hold fast what you have.” They already had everything they needed to remain faithful. They simply had to keep their grip.
That is often our challenge too. We do not usually walk away from God overnight. Life just becomes busy. Work demands more of our time. Family responsibilities increase. Our phones steal a few more minutes each day. Before long, we rush our prayer, leave our Bible closed more often than we would like, and wonder why we feel distant from God. The problem is not that He has moved away from us. Somewhere along the way, we loosened our grip on the things that keep us close to Him.
How to Hold On to Your Faith When Life Is Hard
Jesus then added, “…that no one may take your crown.” He was reminding His followers that faithfulness brings an eternal reward. While the enemy cannot take away your salvation, he will gladly distract, discourage, or tempt you into settling for less than God’s best. That is why Jesus points our eyes to His return. He is coming, and the race is worth finishing. Every choice to trust Him, obey Him, and keep going matters more than we can see today.
Take a moment to ask yourself what has been competing for your attention lately. Is there something that has quietly loosened your grip on your walk with Christ? Do not wait until your heart feels cold before doing something about it. Open God’s Word again. Spend time with Him in prayer. Stay close to other believers who encourage your faith. The greatest gift you have is not your success, your possessions, or your achievements. It is your relationship with Jesus. Whatever you do, hold on to Him.
Prayer
Father, thank You for giving me everything I need in Christ. Help me to hold tightly to You when life becomes busy and distractions pull at my heart. Keep me true until I see You face to face.
