The lot is cast into the lap, but its every decision is from the LORD.
Proverbs 16:33 (NKJV)
In ancient Israel, there were times when people cast lots because they had reached the limit of what human wisdom could decide. They placed small marked objects into the fold of a garment and cast them out. To everyone standing nearby, the result looked completely unpredictable. No one could know which lot would appear. Yet Proverbs says the final decision came from the Lord. Even when things seemed random, God was still the One in control.
When Nothing Is Left to Chance
We often refer to unexpected moments as luck or coincidence. A random conversation opens the door to a new job. You decide to attend church after thinking about staying home, and the sermon speaks directly to the struggle you have been carrying in your heart. A phone call comes at just the right time with exactly the encouragement you needed. We see unrelated events. God, though, has been at work long before the moment ever arrived.
That realisation changes how we view life. We must still study hard, prepare carefully, pray sincerely, and make responsible decisions. God never asks us to stop doing those things. In doing so, He reminds us that some things will always be out of our control. Instead of wringing our hands over every possible outcome, we can faithfully do our part and trust Him with the part only He can see.
Who Is Really in Control?
When life doesn’t go as planned, that belief and attitude are even more essential. A promotion goes to someone else. An application is turned down. A business deal falls through after weeks of effort. Those disappointments are real, and God never asks us to pretend they are not. Thankfully, many believers can look back and testify that they found God’s hand guiding them through situations that once made no sense. We realise that what felt like a setback back then was God working behind the scenes.
If your future feels uncertain today, remember that your life is not being directed by luck or coincidence. The God who ruled over the outcome of the lot still rules over every detail of His children’s lives. Walk forward in obedience. Leave tomorrow with Him. You may not know what the next chapter holds, but you can trust the Author who is already there.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You that my life is never left to chance. Help me to trust You with all that I cannot know and rest in the assurance that You are faithfully leading my way each day.
