For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
2 Peter 1:8 (NKJV)
In the third chapter of his second epistle, the Apostle Peter begins by reminding believers that God has given them everything they need for life and godliness. He then names qualities such as virtue, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love. Today’s key text shows what happens when these qualities keep growing. They begin to shape the way we respond to people, handle difficulties, make decisions, and follow Christ daily.
When Faith Begins to Show
When Peter says “these things,” he is referring to the qualities he has just listed. He wants them to abound, so they become increasingly visible in the believer’s character. That growth makes our knowledge of Jesus Christ fruitful. Knowing Him goes beyond learning facts about Him. As our relationship with Him deepens, His character shapes how we speak, make decisions, handle pressure, treat people, and respond when life does not go as we expect.
Stressful moments often reveal what is happening inside us. A difficult conversation can expose impatience. A disappointment can test perseverance. Someone else’s success can challenge our attitude toward them. A demanding situation can reveal we have self-control. We may not notice spiritual growth right away, but it shows in the choices we make and the way we respond when life gets difficult.
What Is Your Faith Producing?
You may have noticed some changes in yourself already. Maybe you are now able to handle situations that once frustrated or overwhelmed you with greater patience. You may find it easier to forgive, control your words, or remain steady when things go wrong. You may also see areas where you still struggle. Keep growing. God has given you what you need for this journey, and each day brings opportunities to put into practice what you are learning. Faith becomes visible when Christ’s character begins shaping ordinary life.
Take a moment to review your life. Perhaps you need more self-control in your words, perseverance during a difficult season, kindness toward someone who tests your patience, or greater love in a strained relationship. Ask God to help you grow, then take one deliberate step in that direction. Pay attention to the person you are becoming, not only to what you know. As these qualities grow, your knowledge of Christ grows, and your faith begins to show.
Prayer
Almighty God, help me grow the character You desire to see in me. Show me the areas in my life where I still need to grow, and help me live each day in a way that reflects Christ.
