Walking in the Midst of Trouble

Daily Devotional – Tuesday, October 27, 2026
Though I walk in the midst of trouble, you will revive me. You will stretch out Your hand against the wrath of my enemies, and Your right hand will save me.
Psalms 138:7 (NKJV)

Mary is a devoted Christian who loves God and trusts Him with her family’s needs. However, life has not been easy lately. Her husband has lost his job, their savings are running out, and bills keep piling up. She has prayed, fasted, and claimed God’s promises, hoping things would change. Yet, weeks have passed without any improvement. She is beginning to wonder whether God hears her prayers after all.

When Trouble Closes In

Mary’s experience reminds us that God’s people have never been strangers to difficult times. David knew the truth only too well. He had faced betrayal, fierce opposition, and threats to his life. It is against this background that he wrote Psalm 138, a song of thanksgiving in which he reflects on God’s faithfulness and answered prayers. Today’s key text reveals a man who has learned to trust God even when life takes him through difficult seasons.

This testimony must have been reassuring to the people of Israel. Their hardships, opposition, and uncertainty did not place them beyond God’s care. They could count on Him to preserve their lives, strengthen them in adversity, and defend them against those who sought their harm. In other words, their circumstances, however difficult, did not determine the outcome.

Walking in the Midst of Trouble

We, too, face situations where problems accumulate and we cannot see how things will turn out. These include financial strain, family difficulties, workplace conflicts, or opposition from people who wish us no good. Sometimes, our efforts yield little, and our strength begins to fade. Yet, we can take comfort in knowing that God sees what we are going through and is able to sustain us and intervene on our behalf.

You may be going through a difficult season right now, wondering how much longer you must wait for things to change. Perhaps you have prayed repeatedly, yet the situation remains the same. Do not lose heart. God sees what you are facing, and He has not abandoned you. He can renew your strength, stand against what threatens you, and make a way for your deliverance, even when you cannot see it.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, sustain me through this difficult season, renew my strength, and intervene in my situation. Help me trust You even when I cannot see a way forward.
