We ought to obey God rather than men.
Acts 5:29 (NIV)
Imagine a teacher who refuses to change exam results even when influential parents pressure her. She understands that her stand may cost her opportunities, yet she chooses integrity because obeying God matters more than pleasing people. Her resolve offers a clear picture of what it means to honor God when compromise feels easier.
Faith Its Ground
The apostles had been arrested, threatened, and imprisoned for preaching. When the council gathered to decide their fate, guards discovered that the apostles had somehow left the prison during the night. Even more surprising was the report that they were already in the temple teaching again. The leaders summoned them quietly and reminded them of the strict command not to teach in the name of Jesus.
Instead of stepping back, Peter boldly declared that they ought to obey God rather than men. Their confidence rested on the undeniable truth that Jesus had died, risen, and ascended. To stop preaching would mean disobeying God Himself, so they chose faithfulness regardless of threats and consequences.
Faithfulness Above Approval
Their courage challenges us today. We live in a world that rewards conformity and fears conviction. There are moments when obeying God feels costly. At times the desire for approval or the fear of rejection can push us toward choices that weaken our testimony.
Take a moment to reflect on your recent decisions. Have you ever prioritized the praise of people above obedience to God? Remember that true peace and strength are found when you put God first. Let your commitment deepen daily as you rely on His wisdom and trust that obedience leads to freedom.
Prayer
Dear God, give me strength to obey You rather than people, and help me remain faithful even when pressure feels overwhelming.
