The LORD will give strength to His people; the LORD will bless His people with peace.
Psalm 29:11 (NKJV)
Imagine going to bed mulling a problem and waking up with the same nagging thought the following morning. Maybe a bill needs paying, a family matter is unsettled, or you are waiting for an answer you cannot get yet. You have done what you can, yet the delays continue. It is difficult to relax when you do not know how things will turn out.
When You Feel Overwhelmed
It is in moments like these that today’s key text becomes relevant. In the twenty-ninth psalm, David describes the Lord’s voice as powerful enough to shake the wilderness and break mighty trees. He depicts a God whose power is beyond human imagination. Then David ends by saying that the Lord grants His people strength and blesses them with peace. These promises mean even more when we remember who God is.
Our problems may not disappear suddenly because we have prayed. Hence, as David asserts, we can discover comfort in recalling who the Lord is and what He gives us in response to our petitions. The One who rules over creation is not helpless in the face of our troubles. We may not know how a situation will end, but we have reason to trust Him and ask for the strength and peace He promises.
Finding Peace in Uncertain Times
When a problem keeps troubling you, it is easy to spend the whole day running through every possible outcome. There is nothing wrong with planning or taking action where you can. Still, you do not have to carry the whole burden as though everything depends on you. Tell God what is worrying you, ask for wisdom, and take the next step you can. Leave what you cannot control with Him.
Think about what has been stealing your peace. Have you done what you can, or is there a step you still need to take? Do your part, and bring the rest to God in prayer. Your situation may not change today, and you may still have questions. Even so, you can face the day knowing the Lord is greater than your troubles and that you can seek His peace.
Prayer
Loving Father, in moments when fearful and anxious thoughts threaten to drown me, remind me to trust in Your strength and to receive the peace You give freely.
