How Did You Make It This Far?

Daily Devotional – Saturday, September 12, 2026
For the LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand. He knows your trudging through this great wilderness. These forty years the LORD your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing.
Deuteronomy 2:7 (NKJV)

For forty years, Israel made its way through the wilderness. By now, they were nearing the land God had promised them. Moses wanted them to remember what those years had shown them about God. He had blessed the work of their hands, stayed with them through the journey, and provided what they needed. They had walked through difficult places for a very long time, yet God had never lost sight of them. Their journey mattered to Him.

He Knows Your Trudging

As the Israelites passed near Edom, God instructed them to respect the territory He had given to Esau’s descendants. They were to buy food and water rather than take anything that belonged to the people there. This was an ordinary need along a very long journey. Moses used the moment to remind Israel of God’s faithfulness. For forty years, God had cared for them as they travelled and kept on providing for them.

The words “He knows your trudging through this great wilderness” tell us that God was fully aware of what His people were going through. The Hebrew word translated “knows” carries the idea of paying attention to or taking notice of something. God had seen them through every part of that journey. Moses reminded them that, through all those years, God had given them what they needed.

How Did You Make It This Far?

We can sometimes become so caught up in what we need today that we forget what has already happened. A parent may worry about paying the next school bill while remembering how they met previous needs. A young person may be concerned about finding work while forgetting the people who helped along the way. When life feels heavy, it helps to look back and notice the times God provided, opened a way, or gave us strength to keep going.

Your journey may have difficult moments right now. You may be waiting for something, carrying a responsibility, or wondering how a situation will turn out. Take a little time to remember how God has walked with you in the past. Think of the needs God helped you meet and the days He helped you get through. The same God who stayed with Israel through forty years knows where you are today. You can tell Him what you need and keep walking with Him.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, I sometimes forget how much You have already done for me. When I start worrying about tomorrow, remind me that I made it this far because You sustained me and that I can trust You always.
