Therefore, take heart, men, for I believe God that it will be just as it was told me.
Acts 27:25, NKJV
Paul’s ship was caught in a violent storm on the way to Rome. The wind drove it across the sea, and everyone on board began to lose hope. Paul was in that same storm, yet he had something the others did not have. God had spoken to him. Paul knew that he would stand before Caesar and that the people with him would survive. In the middle of all that uncertainty, Paul stood up and told them to take heart.
What Will You Believe When You Cannot See the Outcome?
Paul’s confidence came from a message he had received from God. An angel had told him that he must appear before Caesar and that God had graciously given him the lives of everyone sailing with him. Paul then told the others what God had said. He was not guessing how the journey would end. He was trusting a word God had given him. His confidence gave his frightened fellow passengers something to hold onto.
When Paul said, “I believe God,” he was choosing to trust what God had told him. The word ‘believe’ carries the idea of trusting and relying on what is true. Paul could therefore say, “It will be just as the angel told me.” His faith rested on God’s word, not on what he could see around him. The storm gave him no clear picture of the future, but God’s message gave him confidence about the journey ahead.
How Do You Face What You Cannot See?
You may be facing a challenge today and wondering how it will turn out. Perhaps you have applied for a job and are waiting for an answer, or you are watching a family situation unfold and wondering what comes next. Your mind can run ahead, trying to work out every possible ending. You may find you are rehearsing conversations, calculating costs, or fearing news. Come back to what God has already said in His Word. Let His promises guide your thinking today.
What will you believe when you cannot see the outcome? Start with what God has already said. Read His Word, hold onto what is true, and let it shape the way you face today. You may still have questions about tomorrow, but you can choose where to place your confidence today. Paul could say, “I believe God.” You can make that your response too, trusting God with the part of your journey that you cannot yet see.
Prayer
Almighty God, when I start worrying about how things will turn out, help me remember the abundant promises in Your word. Teach me to trust. You today, even when I cannot see tomorrow.
