He who keeps his command will experience nothing harmful, and a wise man’s heart discerns both time and judgement.

Adrian had been waiting all week for the meeting. He walked into the boardroom and saw managers filing out in silence. There had been a serious argument. Adrian paused, turned around, and went back to his desk. The meeting was rescheduled for two days later. This time everyone was settled, ready to listen, and the conversation unfolded without distraction. Adrian quietly thanked God that he had waited instead of trying to force the moment.
Why Good Timing Matters
Most of us don’t struggle with knowing the right thing to do. We struggle with waiting for the right time to do it. That’s often the harder part. We want answers today, opportunities today, and doors to open today. Solomon reminds us that wisdom is more than making good decisions. It is about learning to recognise the right time. God’s timing is not meant to frustrate us. Rather, it is one of the ways He protects and guides us.
David understood that lesson long before he became king. Although God had promised him the throne, David refused to take it by force when the opportunity presented itself. When the Lord’s time had arrived, he chose to wait. Jesus lived with the same confidence. He never hurried in expectation of others, nor lingered in opposition to others. He waited on His Father’s timing, knowing that there was a proper season for every step.
The Blessing of Waiting a Little Longer
We don’t always know why a door is shut or why our plans are postponed, any more than Adrian does. We may never know all that God is doing behind the scenes. Yet many disappointments come from acting too quickly instead of waiting a little longer. Sometimes faith is quiet endurance. It chooses to trust God’s wisdom, even when God’s timing is not the same as ours.
Is there an area of your life where you’ve been tempted to rush ahead? Bring it before the Lord today. Keep preparing, keep praying, and keep obeying Him while you wait. When the right time comes, you won’t have to force your way forward. The God who directs your steps also knows the right moment for every one of them.
Prayer
Give me wisdom, Lord, to know when you are leading and when You are asking me to wait. Help me to trust your timing.
