The Only Ground That Stays

Daily Devotional – Tuesday, May 5, 2026
Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD, the LORD himself, is the Rock eternal.
Isaiah 26:4 (NKJV)

James thought he was doing well. He worked diligently, paid his bills and tried to provide for his family. Then one afternoon, everything changed. He was told the company was closing. Sitting alone in his car, he felt the silence press in. His mind was full of questions about the future, and for a moment it was as if the ground had opened up under his life.

The Rock That Does Not Move

Today’s key text speaks directly to moments like that. It calls us to trust in the Lord forever, not only when life is calm and predictable. Trust is easier to have when life is going well. However, it becomes much harder when challenges arise. The prophet Isaiah offers allusions to a kind of trust that doesn’t depend on what’s going on around us, but on who God is.

The description of God the Rock eternal gives us something solid to hold on to. A rock does not shift when pressure comes. It is solid, and that is why it symbolises God. When our circumstances change, He doesn’t. His strength, His faithfulness and His care are constant when everything else is changing.

The Only Ground That Stays

James learned this lesson over time. His job had seemed like a safe place, but it couldn’t really hold him. When he prayed to God, he found a different kind of stability. It didn’t turn his life around overnight, but his heart became more settled. He was learning to stand on something that wouldn’t shift.

When life is uncertain, remember where your true security lies. Don’t place all your hope in things that can be stripped away. Instead, choose to trust God, even when life is challenging. He is your Rock. He will not fail you.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, when I encounter uncertainties and challenges, turn my focus to You, the Rock eternal.
