What Your Response to Forgiveness Reveals About You

Daily Devotional – Tuesday, June 2, 2026
Simon answered and said, “I suppose the one whom he forgave more.” And He said to him, “You have rightly judged.”
Luke 7:43 (NKJV)

Picture being invited to a meal where everything seems okay, yet something important is missing. That is the scene in Luke 7. Simon hosts Jesus but offers no water, no kiss, and no oil as custom demands. Then a woman known for her dark past enters, weeping, and pours out love in a way no one expected on that day.

Why Gratitude Grows Where Grace Is Felt

Jesus tells a simple story about two debtors. One owed much, the other little. Both were forgiven. He asks who would love more. Simon answers correctly yet misses the point. The woman understands it deeply. Her actions speak because she knows the weight of being forgiven, while Simon measures himself and feels no urgent need for grace.

It is easy to sit in Simon’s place and compare ourselves with others. We notice what we have not done and feel safe. Jesus, however, shifts the focus. He points to the heart. When we see our need honestly, grace stops being an idea and becomes a gift that reshapes how we respond to God and to people.

What Your Response to Forgiveness Reveals About You

When we forget the enormity of our forgiven sins, our love grows thin. We may go through religious rituals, but our hearts feel distant. The woman’s tears remind us that gratitude has a source. Remembering grace softens us. It makes us patient, kind, and sincere. It alters our treatment of those around us, even in the most trivial moments of life.

Jesus accepts us as we are and offers us what we cannot obtain by ourselves. No one is too far gone; no one is beyond the need for mercy. When we accept His forgiveness, our love becomes deeper. It begins to be expressed in our choices, words, and actions. We lead a life characterised by grace, not pride.

Prayer
Lord Jesus, always remind me how much You have forgiven me so my love for You and others grows deeper each day.
