Daily Devotional – Sunday, July 26, 2026
As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
1 Peter 4:10 (NKJV)
The church youth group gathered on a weekend to help an elderly widow clear her compound after a storm. One volunteer arrived with a sealed box that had been delivered to his house a few days earlier. He assumed it contained refreshments and left it in the boot of his car. The team struggled with thorny branches, minor cuts, and the afternoon heat. As they prepared to leave, he remembered the box. Inside were work gloves, pruning shears, a first aid kit, and bottles of water. Everything they had needed had been there from the beginning.
What’s Inside the Box?
The supplies in that box were useful the moment they were packed, yet they remained unused until someone opened it. Peter says God has also placed something valuable in the life of every believer. As each one has received a gift, we are to use it in serving one another. Unused gifts cannot bless the people God intended them to bless. They remain like that forgotten box, full of potential but making no difference while they stay closed.
The apostle also reminds us that we are stewards. A steward looks after something that belongs to someone else. That changes the conversation completely. My abilities are not really mine, and neither are my opportunities or resources. God has simply trusted me with them for a while. That leaves no reason to envy someone else’s gifts or dismiss my own. The question is not whether my gift seems impressive. The question is whether I am using it where God has placed me.
The Box That Stayed Closed
consider that forgotten box again. The gloves could have protected tired hands. The pruning shears could have made the work easier. The water could have refreshed weary volunteers. None of those things helped while the lid stayed closed. Our gifts can remain just as unused when we hold back because of fear, comparison, or hesitation. Someone may need your encouragement, your practical skills, your generosity, or simply your willingness to show up. Small acts of service often become answers to prayers we never even hear.
Perhaps God has already placed someone in your path who needs what He has entrusted to you. You do not have to wait for a bigger opportunity or a more important role. Open the box. Offer what you have with a willing heart and trust God to use it. You may never know how far a simple act of service reaches, but He does. Nothing placed in His hands is ever wasted.
Prayer
Thank you, Heavenly Father, for giving me gifts to bless others. Show me where You would have me to serve today, and give me a willing heart to use what You have put into my hands. May my life be a channel for Your grace to flow to others and glorify Your name.
