And the hand of our God was upon us. And He delivered us from the hand of the enemy and from ambush along the road.
Ezra 8:31 (NKJV)
There are times when a journey becomes difficult long before you reach your destination. You leave home expecting an ordinary trip, only to meet delays, confusing roads, unexpected danger, or people you cannot trust. You may even wonder whether you should have started at all. Ezra and the people travelling with him knew that the journey ahead could be difficult and dangerous. They were returning to Jerusalem, carrying valuable things, and they had no guarantee that the road ahead would be easy or safe.
You Don’t Have to See Everything
Ezra captures what happened on that journey. God was with them, and He protected them from their enemies and from the dangers waiting along the road. Ezra and the people travelling with him knew that the journey ahead could be difficult and dangerous. They did not know everything they would encounter, but they chose to trust God with the journey. They had a road to travel, and along the way, they had to depend on Him.
We often think God’s protection means nothing difficult will happen. Scripture shows something more realistic. God can protect you while you are still travelling through difficult places. He can give wisdom when you do not know what lies ahead, strength when you feel exposed, and deliverance when trouble comes. At times, His protection keeps danger away. At other times, He carries you safely through something you could never have handled alone.
When You Cannot See the Way
You can plan carefully without pretending that you control everything. You can exercise wise judgement and still trust God. Before you make any decisions, talk to God, ask Him to show you the proper road, and be aware of what is going on around you. The same God who watched over Ezra’s journey can guide you through unfamiliar roads, difficult responsibilities, changing circumstances, and situations where you cannot see what comes next.
As you face your next step, do not let what you cannot see frighten you into inaction. Ask God to go with you, then take the step you need to take. If the road becomes difficult, remember that difficulty does not mean God has abandoned you. He may be leading, protecting, correcting, or strengthening you through the journey. Walk carefully, pray honestly, and keep moving forward. You may not know what lies ahead, but God already knows what is coming.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, walk with me wherever I go. Grant me wisdom, protect me from harm, and inspire me to keep going when the journey is difficult.
