When Your Mind Won’t Rest

Daily Devotional – Friday, September 25, 2026
You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.
Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV)

The twenty-sixth verse of Isaiah opens with a joyous song, celebrating God for making Jerusalem secure. The people praise Him because His salvation gives them security. The song then turns to the person who has firmly fixed his mind on God. Isaiah says God will keep that person in “perfect peace” because he trusts Him. The verse speaks about peace in the middle of a world where people still face danger and uncertainty. The important question is where that person places his trust.

A Peace That Stays

The phrase “perfect peace” comes from the Hebrew words shalom shalom, which repeat the word for peace. The repetition conveys the idea of complete, full peace. Isaiah connects that peace with a mind that is focused on God. The person described here has learnt where to place their thoughts when life becomes unsettled. He is not trusting himself to control everything around him. He is placing his confidence in God, who remains steady when circumstances change.

The fourth verse continues the thought by calling God’s people to trust the Lord forever. Isaiah does not describe someone who has escaped every difficulty. He points to someone who has learned where to place their confidence. When fear, uncertainty, or trouble begins to take over his thoughts, he keeps turning back to God. Peace grows from that trust. Things around us may change, yet we can still rely on God when life feels uncertain.

When Your Mind Won’t Rest

Life can pull your thoughts in many directions. A difficult conversation can stay in your mind all day. A financial concern can keep coming back when you are trying to sleep. News about someone you love can leave you wondering what will happen next. When that happens, take those concerns to God. Tell Him what troubles you, remember what He has promised, and trust Him with what you cannot control today or tomorrow.

If your thoughts trouble you, lean towards God and hand over that burden to Him. There is no need to carry a burden that Jesus is ready to bear. Trust Him with what you cannot see or control. Peace may come quietly, one moment at a time, as your mind settles back on Him. Keep returning to God. He remains the same when everything around you keeps changing, and answers take time to come.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, when my thoughts run to and fro, when I feel uncertain, remind me to bring my troubles back to You. I need your perfect peace and the confidence that I can trust You with what I cannot control.
