Why Do We Keep This to Ourselves?

Daily Devotional – Monday, October 26, 2026
Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech.
2 Corinthians 3:12 (NKJV)

When Ruth received her appointment letter following a job interview, she could not contain her joy. She called family, friends, former classmates, and fellow church members to share the wonderful news. After all, she had searched for a job for close to two years and was on the verge of giving up when the opportunity finally came. That is what happens when something wonderful fills our hearts with joy and hope.

Something Worth Talking About

We find a comparable scenario in today’s key text. Paul draws a comparison between the old and new covenants, highlighting the surpassing glory of the latter. The new covenant, established through Christ, brings freedom, joy, and hope through the ministry of the Holy Spirit. Because of the glorious hope they have received, those who minister under the new covenant proclaim its message with confidence and boldness.

In essence, as God fills believers with hope and the assurance of salvation, they are empowered to share this hope with the world. When we receive and embrace the good news of salvation, we have every reason to respond with vigour and boldness in winning souls for Christ.

Why Do We Keep This to Ourselves?

The reality, though, is often different. Like Ruth, we are often quick to discuss our achievements, experiences, and opportunities, but we become reluctant when it comes to sharing the great hope that is within us. We sometimes appear ashamed of the gospel through which we have become heirs of eternal life. We allow the opinions and criticisms of others to silence us when we should be overflowing with joy and hope.

Today, ask yourself whether you need to be more intentional about the way you share the gospel. We are not talking about forcing your convictions into every conversation or about becoming an obnoxious neighbour, friend, or workmate. Rather, strive to use wisely the opportunities that come your way to demonstrate the love of God through word and deed. Do not allow the fear of people’s reactions to make you ashamed of Christ.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the hope You have given me for today and eternity. Give me the boldness to share this hope with those I live and interact with.
