Why You Don’t Have to Fix Yourself First

Daily Devotional – Tuesday, April 21, 2026
He will rejoice over you with gladness. He will quiet you with His love. He will rejoice over you with singing.
Zephaniah 3:17 (NKJV)

A young boy once picked wild flowers from the roadside and arranged them into a small, uneven bundle. Some were already bending; others did not match, but he carried them home carefully. When he handed them to his mother, she smiled, knelt down, and thanked him warmly. She placed them in a cup and set them where everyone could see. The flowers were simple, but they mattered because they came from her son.

The Kind of Love That Doesn’t Pull Away

Today’s guiding words show us that God is with you, right where you are. He is not watching from a distance. He is strong to save, able to step into real situations and help. Yet this same God looks at His people with delight. As the mother saw her child and not just the flowers, God’s joy is tied to His people, not to how perfect they appear.

There are times when your thoughts turn against you. You replay what went wrong or what you wish you had done better. The boy’s flowers were not impressive, yet they were received with joy. In the same way, God meets you with a steady love that does not depend on you getting everything right. He does not pull away when you fall short.

Why You Don’t Have to Fix Yourself First

He rejoices over His people with singing. This shows a God who expresses joy, not reluctance. The mother placed the flowers where they could be seen because they mattered to her. In a greater way, God does not hide His delight. He draws near, receives His people, and shows His joy over them in ways that are real and personal.

Come to Him as you are today, without pretending or holding anything back. Tell Him plainly what is on your heart. Receive His love as it is. Let His delight shape how you see yourself as you move through this day.

Prayer
Father God, help me to come to You as I am and to live each day knowing that You delight in me.
