But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
Luke 12:7 (NKJV)

“Be gentle! There is barely hair there.” I joke as my barber tries to navigate my head, the receding hairline notwithstanding.
“Don’t worry, my friend,” replies the hairdresser, “You still have plenty of hair left.”
“Are you sure you cannot count the remaining hair?” I ask.
“Who do you think I am? God?” He retorts

God Knows Every Detail of Your Life

His statement reminds me of Christ’s assurance to His followers, “But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.” (Luke 12:7). I marvel at the idea that God knows the exact number of hair on my head.

Does God strain to count my hair? I don’t think so. He appears to have a perfect record that he updates regularly. Even when natural hair loss erodes a few strands from my head, my Creator takes note.

Of More Value than Sparrows

What is the whole point of Jesus statement here? Let us examine the context for clues. “Are not five sparrows sold for two copper coins? And not one of them is forgotten before God. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” (Luke 12:6-7).

The Master Teacher is comparing birds with human beings in the context of God’s providence, goodness and protection. God remembers and takes care of mere birds. He knows every sparrow by name, I guess.

God Watches Keenly Over You

Knowing how valuable human beings are before God, will He not be keener on our welfare? Nothing emphasizes this more than the fact that God numbers the hairs on our side. That is how well God knows and loves us.

As I leave the barbershop, I am encouraged to know that nothing happens to me without God’s knowledge and approval. How good to know that God watches over me all the time, making sure I lack no good thing?

The Very Hairs of Your Head Are All Numbered

Today as you go about your life, do not fear or lose hope. You are on God’s radar. Every detail of your life is in His hands. He knows what is good for you. If you trust Him, He will take of you, lead you, and prosper you.
