The Necklace of Kindness and Truth

Daily Devotional – Tuesday, August 12, 2025
Do not let kindness and truth leave you; bind them around your neck. Write them on the tablet of your heart.
Proverbs 3:3 (NASB)

Today’s key text sits within a larger section (Proverbs 3:1–12) where Solomon, speaking like a loving father, urges his “son” to live wisely in light of God’s covenant. In this particular verse, the spotlight falls on two powerful virtues: kindness and truth.

Bind Them Around Your Neck

The wise man asserts that these qualities should not just be worn on the outside for others to see. They should also be deeply rooted in the heart. That way, these virtues will shape who you are from the inside out.

Life often feels like a constant juggle, entailing work, family, responsibilities, and the endless noise of the world. In the middle of this busyness, verse 3 whispers: never let go of kindness and truth. These are not just nice virtues. They actually reflect God’s very nature.

The Necklace of Kindness and Truth

To “bind them around your neck” means letting kindness and truth be as visible and inseparable from you as a necklace, something people notice right away. To “write them on the tablet of your heart” means letting them sink so deep inside that they mould and influence you, even when no one is watching.

Without kindness, relationships lose warmth. Without truth, trust fades. Nevertheless, when both live in you, you become a reflection of God’s heart, and your life becomes a steady light for others.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, fill my life with kindness and truth so deeply that they become part of who I am. Let them shine through my words, my choices, and my actions, so others see Your love in me.
