The Right That Changes Everything

Daily Devotional – Sunday, March 1, 2026
But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.
John 1:12 (NKJV)

A child stands outside a house in the rain and sees light coming from the windows. He can hear people laughing inside. He wonders what it would be like to be there, to be welcomed, known, and safe. Finally, the door opens and someone calls his name. At that moment, everything changes. He steps forward, and he’s not alone anymore.

You Were Meant to Belong

The Apostle John says that if we accept Christ, we become children of God. John is not being poetic. He is stating a legal fact that accrues to you for making life’s most important decision: following Jesus. You now belong to the family of God with all the attendant rights and privileges. Adoption takes away fear and gives you a sense of belonging.

Being a child of God changes who you are. We are no longer defined by our past mistakes, social labels, or changing feelings. The Father’s promise to us is steady and not earned. When we doubt, we trust His promise instead of what we do. As his sons and daughters, his love teaches, directs, and supports us.

The Right That Changes Everything

If you have accepted Christ, live your life as a beloved child, not as a reluctant guest. Come close to God in prayer, read the Bible with an open mind, and live in obedience based on gratitude. If you haven’t received Him yet, open the door of faith today. You have the chance to become a child of God. Take it and go inside.

Pray
Thank You, Father, for letting me call You my Father. Please help me live happily and gratefully today, knowing that I am Your child.
