God Will Never Forget You

Daily Devotional – Saturday, July 31, 2021

Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb?
Surely, they may forget, yet I will not forget you
.

 Isaiah 49:15 (NKJV)

“Why kill an innocent life? Does she know how many people wish they could give birth? Why didn’t she offer the baby for adoption? What has become of mothers these days? Don’t they have compassion anymore?”

Those were among the tough questions people in the curious crowd were asking. Before them was a newly-born but dead baby. The mother, a seventeen-year-old, was in police custody, for killing her baby.

Such questions arise because we believe mothers have profound love for their children. Mothers are fiercely protective of their offspring. A mother will do anything possible to ensure her child is safe, comfortable, and happy.

The Bible, however, envisions a situation whereby a mother’s love fails the love test. In Isaiah 49:15, we read, “Can a woman forget her nursing child, and not have compassion on the son of her womb? Surely they may forget.”

Human love is fallible. If a mother can forget her suckling child and kill or throw it away, what about brotherly or romantic love? Even your closest friend can betray you. Your spouse can fail you at the most critical moment.

Thank God! The same verse concludes with a beautiful promise: “Yet I will not forget you.” What an assurance from the Almighty God! Are you unwell, alone, grieving, stressed, or forsaken? God has not forgotten you. He is on your side. He is with you right there.

Prayer

Father, thank you for reminding me that you have not forgotten me. I have total faith in you as you work on situations that are not favourable to me.
