Daily Devotional – Friday, August 7, 2026
Jesus answered and said to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt… even if you say to this mountain, “Be removed and be cast into the sea,” it will be done.’”

Picture the disciples standing around a fig tree that had looked perfectly healthy the day before. Its leaves had promised fruit, but Jesus had found none. Now the tree was completely withered. They stared at it, trying to make sense of what they had just seen. Jesus seized the moment to teach them a lesson they would never forget. Referring to the mountain before them, He said that faith without doubt could command it to be thrown into the sea. He was not encouraging His followers to rearrange the landscape. He was teaching them that no obstacle standing in the way of God’s purposes is too formidable for Him.
Facing Life’s Mountains with Faith
The timing of those words mattered. Within a few days, the disciples would watch Jesus arrested, crucified, and buried. Their hopes would seem to crumble before their eyes. Then, after His resurrection, they would be sent into a world that opposed everything they stood for. They had no wealth, no political influence, and no earthly power. From a human perspective, the task was impossible. Jesus wanted them to remember that the size of the challenge would never determine the outcome. Their confidence had to rest in God, not in what they could see.
Most of us know what it feels like to stand in front of a mountain. It may be a marriage that has grown cold, bills that keep piling up, a diagnosis you never expected, or a burden you have carried for years. Often, it is not the problem itself that defeats us. It is the way we keep looking at it that defeats us. We replay the worst possibilities until the obstacle fills our minds and God slowly fades into the background. That is the perspective Jesus calls us to change.
What Jesus Taught About Moving Mountains
Faith is not pretending everything will turn out the way we want. Neither is it convincing ourselves that nothing is wrong. Faith looks honestly at the mountain, then looks even more steadily at God. It kneels in prayer because it knows the battle is bigger than human effort. Sometimes God clears the path. Sometimes He gives us the strength to keep walking. Sometimes He asks us to wait. We can trust that He is working even when we can’t see what He is doing and that whatever He decides will be best.
So, what mountain are you facing today? Do not spend another day measuring how high it is or wondering whether you are strong enough to overcome it. Bring it to the Lord. Tell Him exactly what is on your heart, then leave it in His hands. You may wake up tomorrow and see the mountain still standing, but you will also discover something else. When your eyes stay fixed on God, fear begins to lose its grip, hope starts to grow again, and the mountain no longer looks quite so overwhelming.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, when the mountains are too high to climb, help me to keep my eyes on You, to believe Your wisdom, Your power and Your timing.
