The LORD is able to give you much more than this.
2 Chronicles 25:9 (NKJV)
Amaziah, king of Judah, was getting ready for war. He had an army of 300,000 men from Judah, but he wanted more soldiers. So he hired 100,000 men from Israel and paid them one hundred talents of silver. Then a man of God came to him with a warning. The LORD was not with the army from Israel, so Amaziah should not take them into battle. God had the power to help him, and He also had the power to bring him down. Amaziah now had a choice to make. He had already spent a great deal of money, yet God was asking him to change his plans.
What Are You Afraid to Lose?
Amaziah’s first question was about the money. He had already paid the soldiers, and now he had to send them home. That was a real loss. The man of God gave him an answer that reached beyond the money in question. He reminded Amaziah that the LORD could give him much more than what he had spent. Amaziah took the message seriously. He sent the Israelite soldiers home, even though they were angry with him. He chose to trust God’s direction and move forward with the army God had given him.
We can understand Amaziah’s concern. We also find it difficult to let go of something after we have invested in it. We think about the time, money, and effort we have invested in a plan. We may keep going simply because we have already come so far. Yet God may ask us to change direction. When that happens, our past investment cannot become more important than God’s direction. Amaziah had already paid the money. He could not change that. He could choose what to do next, and he chose to obey.
When You Have Already Invested So Much
Amaziah then led his own army to the Valley of Salt and defeated the people of Seir. The army he thought he needed was no longer with him, yet God gave him victory with the army he had. This victory gives meaning to the prophet’s words. Amaziah had looked at the money he was about to lose. God called him to look at what He could do. Before he saw the result, the king had to trust God. His obedience opened the way for him to move forward with confidence.
You may also face a moment when God asks you to let something go. You may have invested years, money, effort, or hope into it. You may wonder what you will have left if you walk away. Remember Amaziah. God sees what you have already given, and He knows what lies ahead. When His direction becomes clear, follow it. You do not need to see the whole road before you take the next step. Trust the God who has more in His hands than you can see in yours. The LORD is able to give you much more than this.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, give me the courage to follow You when obedience requires me to let something go. Help me trust Your wisdom more than what I have already invested. Guide me in the right direction and help me trust you for the next step.
