A Chat Between Friends

So the LORD spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend.
Exodus 33:11 (NKJV)

Apart from Jesus, Moses is arguably the best model of how our relationship with God should be. He and God were very close friends. The man who led the Israelites from Egypt used to spend quality time in communion inside the tabernacle of the meeting.

As a Man Speaks to His Friend

Moses himself recorded, “So the LORD spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend.” (Exodus 33:11). Interacting with God was both a privilege and a blessing. Indeed, Moses needed divine wisdom and assurance because the task at hand was difficult.

This great leader opened his heart and relaxed while in the presence of the Lord. He did not view the Lord as a stern father, but as a friend he could open up to. Moses knew that God loved him immensely and was always willing to listen to His servant.

A Chat Between Friends

How does a relationship with God, our Buddy look? To begin with, how much time do we spend with Him? How do we feel when we are in his presence? Do we see Him as a hard-working, exacting Master or a Friend who wants the best for us? Do we approach Him with a demand list, which we read out during the one-sided conversation that we dominate?

How different would your walk with God and your prayer life be if you chatted with God like a pal? Would you not come from your prayer closet more enriched, rejuvenated, and ready to serve? If you had regular conversations with God, would you not approach life’s challenges with calmness and treat others with gentleness and respect?

Dear God, be my friend and teach me how to relax and rejoice in Your presence.
