A Choice to Serve

But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.

Life is full of choices. For example, we have to choose what we wear, what we eat, and even how we spend our time. Occasionally, however, we encounter a decision that fundamentally shapes our identity. That is the gist of today’s key text.

We Will Serve the Lord

Joshua, now an older leader who has seen God move in mighty ways, stands before the people. He knows the temptation to follow easier paths or fall in line with what everyone else is doing. He also knows the power of living for God. He has made up his mind.

His was a declaration of direction and identity. That is something we all have to wrestle with. Following God is not something that just happens automatically. It is not inherited or assumed. It is a choice we must make every single day.

A Choice to Serve

We live in a world full of noise and options—money, success, popularity, and comfort. These things can easily become our gods if we are not careful. Joshua’s words should always ring in our hearts even when life is unsettled or uneasy.

Have you deliberately chosen to follow God, or have you just been going through the motions? Are there things pulling your heart away from Him? What does it look like for your home, your family, or your inner circle to serve the Lord together?

Prayer
Almighty God, today I choose you. Help me to live for You with purpose and courage. Give me the wisdom to lead my life and loved ones in Your ways and the strength to say no to anything that pulls me away from You.
