Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be my light.
Micah 7:8 (NIV)
A runner stumbles during a race and crashes onto the track. Some spectators shake their heads, convinced the effort is over. Others watch quietly as the runner pushes up from the ground, limps forward, then gradually finds their stride again. The fall was real, but it did not have the final word.
Rising After the Stumble
Life can feel the same way when hardship attracts judgement. Some people seem to thrive on announcing that your sickness, financial strain, or family trouble proves you are beyond recovery. They assume suffering means disqualification and forget how easily anyone can fall.
Micah addressed that attitude while speaking to Israel. Because of their sin, God allowed powerful nations like Assyria and Babylon to discipline His people. Those nations mocked them and questioned where their God was. Yet Micah held onto hope, trusting that God would plead their case, bring justice, and lead them back into the light.
A Comeback Written by God
That tension still exists today. Even among believers, someone else’s struggle can become fuel for gossip instead of compassion. Darkness is often treated as permanent rather than temporary. God never intended discipline or difficulty to destroy His people. He uses it to correct, restore, and reveal His faithfulness when we return to Him.
When you find yourself surrounded by darkness, choose faith over despair. Turn to God with humility and repentance. Stand firm while learning from past mistakes. Refuse voices that declare your story finished. Keep moving forward with quiet confidence, knowing that falling does not cancel God’s purpose and light still shines for those who trust Him.
Prayer
Almighty God, thank You for lifting me when I fall and for being my light in every dark season.
